Generic P0xxx powertrain codes use standardized definitions. P1xxx codes are manufacturer-specific and must be interpreted using the exact Ford vehicle, module, engine/transmission, and current service information.
Do not cross-apply P1xxx definitions. A P1xxx code found on another manufacturer can have a different meaning on Ford.

Best diagnostic workflow
- Scan every relevant module, not only the ECM.
- Save stored/pending/permanent codes and freeze-frame data before clearing.
- Separate generic P0xxx codes from manufacturer-specific P1xxx codes.
- Use the VIN, exact engine/transmission, and calibration when checking service information and TSBs.
- Diagnose primary power, voltage, network, misfire, and mixture faults before downstream symptom codes.
